I made my complete interior for my V8. I used 1/8th inch masonite with a
layer of clear vinyl (5 mil?) on the outside and 1/4" headliner padding,
followed by cloth backed vinyl on the inside. I bought everything but the
masonite from a fabric store. I chose the vinyl based on flexibility and
slightly on grain. The whole mess is held together with 3m adhesive. I did
not have patterns so I developed them with the clear plastic because it was
the easiest to work with.

The masonite and padding were cut to match the clear while the black was
roughly 1-1/2 inches oversized. For ease of mounting I drilled 1/8th inch
holes through the masonite for the screws. I glued everything together and
then trimmed and wrapped the excess vinyl and glued that as I went. On
simpler pieces I preferred trimming and then gluing all at once, on the more
complex shapes I did it in chunks by laying all the glue down and fitting a
section at a time as I trimmed, the only problem here is it is a little
easier to get wrinkles this way.

I don't think that there is anything special here. I like the look with the
padding as it makes the interior look a little less spartan. It was a tight
fit to get the trim around the door levers on and the window winder is
snugger then normal but the foam is very soft and so it gives very easily,
but since you are not building door panels don't worry. The whole thing,
door panels, f/r kick panels, and GT tailgate panels was done in a weekend.
