These bars are essential on cars with stowable tops, and they
provide a great deal of hidden stowage space when the tonneau
cover is snapped in the "open" position. I would think that even
with a folding top, the tonneau cover would lay all haphazardly
across it whithout using the bars to draw it tight in the open
position.
