Well, this is an interesting article with the following reference to the MGC:

http://www.chpltd.com/mgworld/boy_racer.html

"James races in the MGCC BCV8 series, run by the MG Car Club and
sponsored by classic-car insurer Peter Best. It has classes for standard
and tuned MGBs, MGCs and MGB GT V8s. The series might seem slightly
baffling to those outside the MG racing world, given that 1.8-litre MGBs
on rubber you can get from the local tyre bay line up on the same
starting grid as 4.9-litre MGB GT V8s on racing slicks, but its
designed to allow wheel-to-wheel racing and give spectators a good show."

"For example, MGBs and MGCs compete in the same class because the Cs
extra power is reckoned to be cancelled out by the Bs better handling.
And running different classes in the same race means grids of perhaps 30
cars, which makes for greater on-track drama, even if half the cars
arent technically racing each other."
