I've had a garmin 12 and the garmin 8 before that. Both are very fine and
are in the low cost category. If you don't need maping you can stay in the
$100 - $150 range. I'd stay away from the compact models, the screen is
just too small to read. When you use it, remember that it takes from 1-3
seconds to update speeds. Faster updates requires $$$. To use it as an
odometer, you need to have the trail function turned on. Otherwise it will
only keep the mileage from the starting point to whever you end up - as the
crow flies. Good luck

I am looking to get a GPS system but there seems to be a gazzillion
models out there. The primary use of the GPS is as a trip odometer
and a speedometer - I am not interested in mapping software or
other features. It will used on a dual-sport bike for enduros and
trials but will probably find its way into the MG so that I don't
get stopped for doing 82mph in a 55!!!!
If any body has experience with the smaller GPS systems. I'd like
to hear your comments.
