Mine are installed the same as your *original* was, that is with the larger 
bump to the rear on both my soft and hard tops. Never had any problem 
latching/water sealing with either one although what you say regarding 
handing and sealing may have some merit. BTW, I found installing the seal a 
real PITA on the soft top, much easier on the hard top. Any tips you care to 
share? I did use a new seal retainer on the soft one.
