Two weeks ago I smoked some wires under the dash. I found that it was the
ignition switch that was disintegrating internally. I installed the ignition
switch out of the parts car, but had to cut out the multiplugs under the
dash to do so. After temporarily wiring everything back together, the beast
started right up and the car is now sitting in the NO SMOKING section of the
garage!!!
When the car originally "smoked", I was very glad that I had quick
disconnects installed on the battery posts because I was able to unhook very
quickly. Evidently only one brown wire was fried under the dash and after
repairing it all lights and switches tested out OK. Now all I have left to
do is permanently solder the new wiring in place. I couldn't find any
multiplugs anywhere, so I opted for a 6 wire trailer installation plug that
I will splice into the underdash wiring instead of splicing the wires
directly together.
Thanks for all the advice.
