Paul:

This is the seal in the center of the sending unit mounting plate that
the electrical connector goes through, not the mounting plate to tank
seal.  

There are some very nasty additives being used to oxygenate the gasoline
over here.  The liquid is not a problem, but the vapor eats through all
kinds of different plastic compounds.  

HD type carburetor diaphragms were a real problem for a while.
