Steve,
The last time that happened to me (which wasn't too long ago), I could start
the car but the clutch was rusted or stuck to the flywheel and I couldn't
shift into gear. I placed the car in reverse and hit the starter and it
broke loose. You need to make sure that there isn't anything that you can
run into as the car could start and take off down the road so the brakes
need to work also. It didn't take much to break the clutch loose and it
worked fine from then on.

MG Listers,
I replaced the slave cylinder and rebuilt the clutch master cylinder
on my 72 MGB, but no action on the clutch fork. The hydraulic fluid
bleeds from the slave cylinder. The car has been sitting for over 4
years. The old slave cylinder was seized. How can I free the clutch?
