I  believe this is actually what the NYFD recently gave to their fireman  as 
personal ropes (which they have not had for many years). My brother  (NYFD Lt.) 
was telling me about them. They don't stretch and have some  measure of 
fire-resistance. Although they did just get recalled due to  a problem with the
