If both senders pegged both gauges to F then I'd say the wire has been
shorting to ground somewhere, now moved away, but likely to short again.
I'd say the chances of your sender having a short-circuit fault, and a new
replacement from Moss, and then yours repairing itself are minimal to
non-existent.  Good luck getting your refund!
