Hey Matt, et al.,
   Thanks for all the advice.  My first concern was
that the switch isn't a simple SPST but rather, it has
many terminals.  What I have learned is that the
switch activates the map light AND the courtesy
lights, which operate independently otherwise.  And as
Matt says, every car seems to defy the known
schematics.
