   I would be a bit reluctant to drill and tap into tie-rod end also.
Seems to me that the probability of introducing a chip of metal into the
fitting is high.      The question arose when, in our club, a couple of
members noted that three-four year old ends had perished, perhaps from
lack of grease.  The units that failed had metal caps resembling "freeze"
plugs, and it was wondered if the caps could be drilled and tapped. Those
caps were still shiny.
