Same here.  You could
also dial other phones within our local area
with just 5 digits - the last
digit of the exchange and the four
of the number.  You could even make your
own phone ring by dialing
your number and hanging up.  Very handy when
unwanted solicitors
came to the door.  "Dear, it's for you!" "Oh my, gotta
go!"
