rear-view mirrors

After seeing all of the complicated and technical aspects of turn signals and
seat belts, I am in dire need of some information regarding installation of a
replacement rear-view mirror. My 1971 has a suction cap mirror with a 5 inch
mirror on it - The rubber suction cap has deteriorated over the years, and
won't stick. I have not been able to find any replacement mirrors of less
than 7 inches, which completely block the view on the large windshield, as
you can imagine.

Does anyone have any ideas on replacing the cup (which has a metal insert in
the center), sticking it to the window (superglue won't hold over a month),
purchasing another (even Melvyn Rutter Ltd. doesn't carry them), or finding a
clamp to go over the top frame of the windshield and support it?

I look forward to your response.
