Bjorn -

I had the identical problem in my 1971 +8 - It ran hot at idle and low
speeds, and cooled down at highway speeds - The problem was that the two
leads to the electric fan are reversed, and the fan blows forward instead
of sucking the air from the radiator. Therefore, at slow speeds, the
airflow through the radiator is countered by the fan, and there is no
effective circulation at all. Turn the motor on and see which way the fan
blows - Just switch the two wires, and your problem is solved! I tried
everything, including pulling the thermostat before figuring that out. Let
me know if that works.
