I have two thoughts:

The system needs a resistor to reduce coil current?  You mfgr. should have 
told you and this is not likely with an electronic distributor.

They do run warm and they run warmer at low RPM because the current stays on 
longer between firings, hence a greater percentage of the time. The sparks 
are created the instant that the primary current is switched OFF.
