Several years ago I was editor of the Three/Four club newsletter "The
Morganeer". I ran an article about air circulation under the bonnet. Someone
from a large truck manufacturing company (maybe White) put a Morgan in a
wind tunnel. He discovered that the air doesn't come out through the
louvers. In fact, it recirculated back through the radiator. His soultion
was a small piece of rubber floor mat material bolted under the car near the
tie rod to act like an air dam to cause turbulance and help prevent this hot
air rebound.
I used it (and eventually replaced the rubber mat with a metal scoop) and it
worked. In addition, I spoke to Fred Sissons at a MOG in Virginia several
years ago. He suggested that I put in a shroud between the radiator and the
cowl for the same reason, preventing air from recirculation. I didn't do
that but others have with positive results. So, why are louvers there? Don't
know. It does look "cool" even if it doesn't help to keep things cool.
