Hi Fred.

My knowledge of oils in general and gear oils in particular is sketchy to say
the least. There is one thing that I have grasped however: A hypoid gearoil
contains substances that make the oil cling better to the metal. These
substances will tear away on the bronze parts in an older gearbox.

On my 3-wheeler I have been recommended to use either 140 grade gearoil or
Castrol 40R oil. Don't know if these will work on an old Moss-box though.

Happy Morganeering
