I have a '53 GMC 1/2 ton.  According to my '47-'54 Maintanence Manual it should
be a 228CI.
1/2 ton is a series 100, I think a 3/4 ton is series 150 or 200 but I'm not
sure. GMC used a 248CI starting with series 300. Finding information on the 228
is hard, even inliners international
(http://inliners.org/) which has a page of casting numbers does not mention the
228.
