To keep things interesting I'm using 52 bendix brakes on my 50 project
and just bought a set of Kevlar composite brake shoes. Some may recall I
asked if anyone had used these after seeing a claim by Custom Classic
Truck Mag that they did a test and found them to stop as good as disc
brakes. I found many skeptics but no one had ever tried them so I
decided to. Anyhow they are expensive and looking at my drums I ignored
advice I gave others and decided to have them turned. They were full
size and in borderline condition, I asked them to remove a mim of
material. The operator got distracted and shut down turning in the
middle leaving a ridge. Another person fixed it by turning again. They
now measure .075 over, but no charge for ruining them. I'm glad they
weren't huck drums. Napa tells me they can get me new ones for $35 so I
ordered them. Finally my question, I see the drums are held on with a
swedged bolt and have a gasket between the hub and drum. Where can I get
these?
