I did the whirlwind tour of the Chevy Truck Nationals in Pigeon Forge and the
Street Rod annual at Chilhowee Park, Knoxville on Saturday.

The truck nationals didn't seem to be that big an event but I did get to meet
a couple of guys from the list--Terry from AL and Kelly from Jim Carter's. .
. apparently just missed Joe Clark as well--and ran into someone who knew my
brother and started picking on me about all of our projects that aren't done.

I also saw a 57 Suburban for sale for $2500. . .except for the fact that it
had a near perfect tailgate including the oddball tail light fixture (that I
do admit to drooling over), it wasn't any better than the 57 Sub that Brian
and I paid $700 for last year. If he had wanted $1000 for it, I would
probably have another Sub right now. Otherwise there were many nice trucks,
but the coolest was a morph of what looked like a late model 4dr pickup and a
front end/chassis/drivetrain from a Kodiak (6500 series) large chevy truck. .
.haven't figured that one out yet but it looked great. Also saw a great 72
Suburban with an original 400 in it that I would have loved but not for
$16500.

The street rod show was huge and had many chevy trucks (pickups, panels,
suburbans) from the mid '30s up to 49. Lots of vendors there related to old
trucks. I would definitely recommend it to anyone on the list who's into non
stock vehicles. Also hooked up with Chevrolet and BF Goodrich on racing
stuff, but I guess that's off topic.

Headed home with more gear oil than blood in my veins--overall a good day,
except now I'm too tired to do a needed radiator swap in my 86 Silverado with
200K miles on it.
