When I'm not working on the old truck, I run a computer manufacture and
repair business. There is no need to panic. Just NEVER open an attachment to
email from anyone for any reason. You never know where your good friend or
relative got it and its not worth the trouble. Best way to distribute
pictures and stuff that requires an attachment is to learn how to put them
up on web pages. Then there is no risk.

Virus checkers are a big farce for this reason.. the minute you buy it, its
obsolete. The people responsible for making these viruses have already made
new ones that your virus checker doesnt detect. Since the virus checker uses
substantial internal resources and slows the computer way down (when its
running on start up), you are penalizing yourself for nothing. The only way
for a virus to get you is if YOU open an unknown file and generally only
from the internet. Therefore, do not open attachments, or anything else that
is sent to you. If you want to feel secure, rather than buy a virus program,
purchase an umbrella and use it everywhere you go no matter what. It will
give you roughly the same result.

I get so many calls I cant begin to tell you concerning false alarms on
viruses. There are fewer out there than you think. When I get called out,
its usually a McAfee or Norton Virus checker user who called to say it
detected a virus.. so I go out there only to find the virus checker found
some programming code that was consistent with a virus but it wasnt. Ok for
me, I get $35 an hour for such calls, but when i get there, the first thing
I do after I find the problem is delete the virus checker. They see how much
faster their computer runs, swear to the gods to never open an attachment,
and all is wonderful. Sorry for the rant, but I see this all too often.. no
need to panic.
