I have one of those rearends...it's a Dana 40, similar to what GMC used
for quite a few years. The drums are indeed different than Chevys, just
enough to cause problems. You should still be able to get new drums,
maybe, at least I found some about 10 years ago. Ask for rear drums for
a 65 GMC half ton with a Dana rearend (or with leaf springs, if that is
what they ask).

If you want, I'll look around here and see what drums I have...but I
doubt I have any useable (less than .060" wear) drums besides the two I
need for the rearend I have...which may go in a truck someday. I don't
like getting rid of parts I may need.

Anyone have a 1/2 ton TF Chevy/ GMC with original posi trac installed
or
have some experience with them? I started to put the brakes on a 59 1/2
ton
fleet and found the brake drums to be different from the front --
although
the front and rear are both 6 lug the rear drum is mushroomed out which
allows the drum to go completely on. I've heard that Chevy used the GMC
3/4
ton posi axle so I tried to get a 3/4 ton drum with 6 lugs but they are
all 8
lug.
If anyone know the whereabouts of a 6 lug drum for this setup I'd be
interested.
