I agree Turbochargers by Hugh Macinnes is probably the best book to start 
with. 
  I still have and use it for reference all the time. To my knowledge last 
printing was 1976
  Although turbos have come a long ways since 76 the formulas are still good 
for us street guys. A stock I 6 should just fine with 5-8 lb. of boost if it 
was a good engine to start with. PLEASE read the book first not just any 
turbo will work.
