Hi Adam.

Yes as to the shoes needing to be replaced.  Once the oily fluid soaks in,
the shoes' ability to create friction against the drum drops.

As to the wheel cyllinders, you can actually get rebuid kits or new
cyllinders from a good auto parts store, as well as specialty suppliers.  I
bought the rarer 1950 cyllinders from my local place.  It took a day to get
them, and they were substantially cheaper than from the specialty places.
