Smokey, I had the exact same problem when I installed the original
taillights on my '47-2. I replaced some cheap looking aftermarket
taillights the PO had put on. When putting on the new original taillights,
I just took out the old single element sockets and put in a dual-element
sockets. The sockets cost less than $2 each.

If I remember right, the TOP light is the one to install the dual-element
socket in. It's the brake light also. The turn signal has to override the
brake light so it will still blink when the brake is on. (Hope this makes
sense!)

I further complicated the whole taillight issue by rebuilding the inside of
the light housing to accommodate the larger 1157-type bulbs. I didn't want
to use the smaller bulbs that came with the light because I had so much
trouble finding them (small dual-element bulbs) here in the small town where
I live. It all worked out great...but only after many hours of trying to
figure it all out (lights, correct wiring, right sockets, how to rebuild
housing, etc.). After I FINALLY finished it all...after many hours... and
was putting the light back together, I dropped the lens on the concrete and
it broke in about 15 pieces. You probably heard me yelling over where you
live! Funny now, but then ....another story. My language caused the grass
to burst into flames. :>)

Good luck with the conversion!
