It sounds like the slot where the locating tab on the shifter box goes. I
guess it keeps it from moving around the column.
I'm not an expert on the earlier series trucks but on the 2nd
series..(sorry Task Force..hehe) there is a slot similar to what you are
describing and that is what it is for.
