If it's a real 409, then it would be worth a lot more to a restorer than
to an ole truck guy! They are very hard to find, and good rebuilt 409s
are usually offered for sale for $4k-10k. Take a look in Hemmings Motor
News.
If it's really a 348, then it would be worth considerably less.
The 348 is a waste of time (imho), unless you really want a nostalgia
ride...a 350 will make more power, weigh less, fit better, be much less
expensive, etc.
As far as I know, the 348/409 would probably fit in a 65 truck (they
were optional in bigger versions of these trucks), but you may want to
mount the engine forward in the 68-70 396 big block position, or perhaps
all the way forward in the 67-72 small block position, for extra head
clearance. The 67-72 frame brackets will bolt into a 63-66 truck. The
bellhousing, mounts, etc should all be where they belong (the same as a
small block or 396-454 big block).
Exhaust, water pump, alternator bracket, etc may be hard to find, if the
engine doesn't have them.
I've been quite happy with modern 396-454 big blocks in old trucks, and
they fit pretty nicely in the mid 60s trucks, although you may have to
scrounge for the parts to put it in right.
