I went to the NSRA event in Oklahoma City this past
weekend. I have attended the last two years and my
brother-in-law has been the last four years. I must
say I was quite displeased with the attitude of the
city officials in Oklahoma City. It has always been a
custum to cruise and show the vehicles off to the
public. But, last year the police department began
coming down on the rodders. This year it was totally
insane. The police were leaving the locals (mostly
kids in thier 4X4 junk and foreign noise makers) to do
whatever they wished and were pulling NSRA members
over and issuing citations for no rear fenders (an
Oklahoma law), height requirements, light infractions,
noice infractions, (and this was a real kicker since
the bikers were running up and down the street with
drag pipes twice as low as any rod with open headers.)

We tried talking to the NSRA Reps and were told that
you cruise at your own risk, they are not responsible
for/nor do they intend to be included in the cruising.
We also talked with the Oklahoma Rodders club, they
were as disgusted as were most of the members of the
NSRA we had talked with. The Oklahoma club advised
they had spokenb with the visitors bureau and the
police. The police informed them thta THEY wer
incharge and they would do whatever they wanted and if
the NSRA or any other group did not like it they could
go somewhere else. This seems like a good way to
throw MILLIONS OF TOURIST REVENUE right out the
window.

The cruising rodders were not the problem. They were
not the ones doing burnouts, drinkng and throwing
their trash or exposing male and female body parts.
The police allowed the locals to make asses of
themselves and are using it to punish the Rodders. I
know for fact that 20 cars will not return next year.
I know that does not seem like much but if you add
several other clubs that raised the money so they
could go to a large event and show their pride, it
will add up.

This is not intened to rant. I would like to see other
responses from anyone that attended this event or who
may have a better insight. I am personally contacting
the Mayor of Oklahoma City and the Governor and the
Lt. Governor (who was a guest speaker that I was not
allowed to speak with personally at the show)to voice
my concerns.
