This may be of some interest
to members on the list. My 52 Canadian 93001/2 ton runs a 350-
powerglide open to A'65 12 bolt rear. I have never been happy with the
stock '65 park brake cables hooked to stock '52 cross shaft. I ordered
repro cables, clevises and boots from Chevy Duty. I did not realize how

the cables were bolted in to stock 52 backing plates. They will not
fit, as my 12 bolt backing plates take a more modern cable anchored by a

round spring clip. I figured I was stuck for cables, until my neighbour

mechanic pal got a new universal cable assemblies, right style of spring

anchor, thick neoprene covered steel armoured steel core AND a threaded
adjusting rod you attach with set crews. We figured the length to cut
each able using the Chevy Duty cables as samples, then we mounted them
from backing plate, through the anchor bracket. And to clevis onto
cross shafts. (I used factory assembly manual for pictures. ) Now I
have functioning park brake, stock look and Chevy Duty will take back
stock cables. My new cables aren't Taiwan-made. It bugs me to put
off-shore stuff on my truck.

I realize that suppliers have to source out their product wherever it is

cheapest. I just wish products for N American vehicles could be made in

our factories, the way it used to be when our economies were strong and
catered to old coots like me.
