Ryan--

For what you plan on using the truck for (mostly in town), and
with those tall 30" tires, I'd suggest either 3.50 or 3.70
gears. But, if you spend time on the highway at 75 or so,
you'll get tired of the engine running that fast.

I am putting 3.00 gears in my 57 Suburban, behind a 454/th400,
with about 27" tires. I had this setup in my 66 suburban, and
was quite happy with it...cruising at 75mph just under 3000 rpm.

In my 55 Belair, with the blown big block, I run 2.75
gears...hey, it has too much torque (650 ft lbs approx) anyways!
