Bob and list,
Thanks to all for the input.  I am sure that I have started this hobby like
so many of you.  But now 2 years into it I still think this will be my ONLY
truck.  I know that this may be pie in the sky thinking however I have
approached this project with just purchasing what I needed and paying for
someone else to do things that would only happen once (Kingpins/New Head).
Over all I have purchased only the tools that I know that I would use over
and over and for other things beside the truck.  There are a few
exceptions - a steering wheel puller and the brake tools.  I have used these
tools more that the one time that I thought I would.  I had to re-do most
everything I have attempted.

Now I have reached the state that I have a truck that is a driver.  It is
mechanically sound.  However it looks like crap if you get closer that 25
feet to it.  I have priced out getting it professionally completed however
this is out of my price range.

Here are my options - do nothing except keep re-touching the rust through
with the spray rustoloum cans.  This is my wife's choice, after all I just
got an old truck to drive stuff to the dump and pick up mulch - RIGHT -
where did this restoring stuff come from?

Break the restore job into years (my choice):
If I do this my next step would be to get a compressor and a siphon blaster
and a cheep paint gun.  This is why I raised the question.  Over the next 5
years or so I would work on pieces of this truck.

2001
wheels - sandblast and paint (glossy black)
cut off rear bumper
blast and paint rear and front bumper and brackets
fix rear pockets and hand new lights

2002
Rear Fenders - pull - blast - repair (purchase/borrow wire welder) - paint
Tailgate - fix - blast and paint reinstall with new hanger
Box - blast in place - pull front of box and paint rear of cab - reinstall
install new wood - install fenders

2003
cab - paint outside
hood - paint outside
front fenders and grill - pull - repair - paint - re-hang

2004
do inside of cab
paint under hood what I can take off

Now - to restate the compressor purchase item.  I do not want to disrupt my
way of life.  One such thing I would perceived as an issue with domestic
bliss would be in addition to the compressor cost is to get 220 ran into the
garage.  I do not care if I have to wait for the compressor to re-charge
(something like a 50% duty cycle).  I am in no big rush and would rather
save $200 dollars than wait a total of 10 hours for the compressor to
refill.  Since I am a rookie it may be better to have a forced wait to
re-evaluate exactly what I am doing each step of the way.  I am guessing
that after the compressor is used for the truck the only other thing I would
use it for is to inflate bike and car tires.  So not much use outside of the
truck restore.  I do not know if I even need to go the HVLP paint route.  I
just like to waist as little as possible and this seemed to be the better
option.  But that is another topic.


FINAL QUESTION:
So with all of this said can I get buy with a 30 gal 135 PSI 8.6/6.4 40/90
PSI for the price of $259.88?  Or is it a waist of money and I could not get
anything done with it.  Best to use oven cleaner and spray cans?  For the
compressor that Bob specked out would cost about $1000 plus the cost to get
the power brought to the garage.  In total this and the air tools would cost
more that I paid for the truck in it raw condition.....

Jim, that compressor is not big enough.  An HPLV gun uses 12-14 cfm.  A
pressure fed blasster uses 15cfm continuously, and more as the nozzle wears.
Forget the horsepower rating thats  bull.  You need a 2 stage compressor
giving 15+ cfm at 150 psi.  If you get less you will be sorry.
