Hi. I just returned from a trip to the Corvallis and Tillamook Oregon areas.
Love the places, hate the trip. I won't drive thru LA anymore, after being
pushed into the medium (gravel and sand) twice in 10 minutes by eighteen
wheelers doing 70-75 in a 55 zone. Anyway, while on the trip I saw a 195? GMC
650, at least the cab, fenders, grill, and front end. This looks like a great
candidate for my super pick-up project, using old sheet metal, and newer 1 ton
4X4 running gear. Anyone have an idea what the grille (chrome), fenders, and
cab would be worth? One estimate I heard from a truck enthusiast in Oregon was
$200-300. And of course, how do I get it from N. CA to PHX,AZ? Is this cab the
same as that on pick-ups? It looked like it, and the seat measured 53 inches.
I also saw an early 50's GMC 650 firetruck just south of Sutherlin, Oregon. At
least, I think it is a 650. There were two rotweilers lounging near it, and
when I drove near, they showed a GREAT interest in me. It was white, and
looked to be in good condition. (So did the dogs!)) . Also, near Corvallis , I
found a bunch (or several) old trucks that were used by a logging company. One
was a mid 50's model 38 "Apache" flatbed NAPCO conversion, wearing a small
water tank. I talked to one of the owners (81, and still working!) . He said
he and his brother had discussed selling them. I urged him to sell them to
collectors for restoration as it looks like they have been sitting abt 5
years. Not bad condition, but certainly not getting any better. But much
longer, and they'll be junk. (And I found out he is related to my
sister-in-law!!) (And TWO Autocars-I love Autocars!!). If they decide to sell
these trucks, I'll put the information on this list, with photos of the Chevy.
