I have a 351 v6 in my 50 GMC so it will fit. It's the same block as a 305. 
I didn't put it in so I can't help with what you would have to do for 
modifications. $400 seems a bit steep for an engine that isn't that 
popular. Reputed to run forever. As far as aftermarket mods go I haven't 
found any. If you want a performance engine go with the ubiquitous 350.
