I installed the monos on my 56 and enjoy them and the look it provides. I
lowered the rear by removing 2 leafs from each spring pack, brought the
rear down to match the front. Load capacity probably suffers, but don't
carry stuff in the bed as it is. Of course after the fact of installing the
monos--couple hundred bucks--I thought why didn't i do the same to the
front end. After checking around a bit, i've personally seen trucks with 2
to 3 springs removed on the front and it brought it down comparable to the
monos. Damn--could've saved some $$$'s. Oh well.... If you have a 6cyl you
can probably remove 3--with a V-8 may 2. I've leave the longest of
course--have to-leave the next to longest and removed the next one-skip
one, removed the next. I've seen many trucks do this and they look great.
Must be careful that no interference with the steering occurrs--probably not.
On my monos i actually had to remove about 1/2 the bump stop on the frame
so it would bottom out. You'll have to check the clearance after you do it.
Take a full saturday and get out in the garage and its easy to do, plus you
can check it as you go-don't like 2 removed, remove 3 and see what ya got.
Just be safe and make sure you support the truck appropriately. --wayne
