Dana,
   Do you have an open or closed drive shaft? Yes, the plug on the back side 
of the differential is the filler plug.  Fill with 90 weight gear lube until 
it starts to come back out the filler hole.  It holds around 3 quarts when 
empty.  Spring bushings, spring eye bolts, and shackles are not difficult to 
change.  I recommend you get a shop manual for your truck.  It has all these 
repair procedures covered, with some pictures for help.  Good luck.
