DO NOT CUT THE LINE....it is actually a sealed tube filled with gas
(ether?).  When the gas in the bulb end expands as the engine warms up it
deflects the needle in the gauge.  There are service companies that repair
them, so they should also be able to lengthen them also.  Check in Hemmings
under "Services".
