The "tunnel" was support to be "tuned"...typo. Sorry,
I've had a long day and I misread Mike's original
post. I somehow missed the part with the 88 Firebird
TPI...sorry about that...my mistake.

Bill, I disagree about the production intakes handling
a lot of horsepower. I had a diagram (I'll try to
find it) that stated that those intakes where not to
exceed somewhere around 350 - 375 horsepower. They
where never designed to take that. It makes sense
to...since production vehicles (especially the newer
ones) are designed just enough to get the job done.
Most are not like the old days where thing where
typically over designed.

The 88 firebird was around 230 - 245 horepower on the
larger 5.7L V8 with 330 - 345 torque (numbers may not
be exact but should be close). The HP and torque
didn't jump big until the LT4 engine in 1996 on the
Corvette at 330 HP and 340 lb ft torque but that was
Sequential Port Injection not TPI.

This link talks all about this:

TPI and MPFI are not the same..the concept is tha
same, but the flow design is different.
