How many springs do you have in the rear? If they are the original springs
they will probably be real firm to handle a payload.
Most times you can take a spring or in some case 2 out to let the rear end
settle more and this will not make your U-bolts any close to the ground. I
guess it depends on the springs, sometime you can take out the short little
helper spring on the bottom, or other times take out one of the middle springs.
As long as you don't remove them all leaving one stock spring you should be
ok, to go the mono spring way you'd have to buy a spring designed to do
that. Hope this helps some,
