Hi Larry,

I replaced the speedometer needle on my 1949 3600, and it is an easy job. I
assume by now you have pulled the chrome rim and glass off the front of the
speedometer by gently straightening the tabs on the rim that are bent back over
the speedometer housing. The needle is held on the shaft by friction, and to
remove it it is critical to pull on both sides simultaneously. I used
screwdrivers as levers 180 degrees apart on the base of the speedo needles,
using the
housing as the fulcrum to gently pry the needle off the shaft.

I installed the new needle with my thumb, making sure I was pressing evenly
and gently on the new speedo needle center, and not putting pressure on the
needle itself lest I snap it off.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
