My  recollection is that there were two styles.  One was a straight oil
bath filter.  One separates the top & bottom halves, properly disposes
of the old oil, uses a shop rag to clean both top and bottom, then fill
the bottom to the line with 30 Wt oil, put the 2 halves together, &
reinstall on the carb.

The second style is like the first, and all said above still applies.
However, the second style has a woven mesh which is lightly oiled (like
a K&N).  The woven part is soaked in solvent for a few minutes, then
blown out with air, then re-immersed in solvent for a few more minutes,
then blown out with air a second time, then fogged with a light coat of
oil & reinstalled.

Alan has the right idea "like K&N" but as previously posted, using their
kits is too expensive for what you get.
