Last spring I fabricated a 'fake' firewall cover for my '56 Chevy pickup
from 14 gage steel and mounted it to the engine-side firewall to cover up
all the wires, hoses and etc. I've attached a photo showing the engine
compartment and the 'fake' firewall cover.
I bought a roll of insulation and aluminium tape for the edges/seams from JC
Whitney's website. This insulation is foil on both sides with a dual layer
closed-cell foam in between. Does the same thing(insulates heat and sound
deadener). It is not as light-weight as the bubblewrap, in fact it is
downright heavy (probably weighs a pound per square yard). I used the
aluminium tape to seal the edges and seams, then attached it to the back of
the firewall cover with some spray adhesive (also bought from JC Whitney).
I've been very pleased with the results. Just thought you might want
another alternative to the foil backed bubble wrap.
