The crate motor is a great turnkey solution. It comes with manifold,
Holley electric choke carb, air cleaner, HEI distrutor, wires, plugs, flex
plate, water pump, chrome valve covers, etc. and was priced at $3500.
It needs 91 octane gas and really woke up the Chevelle with the same
kind of horsepower and torque a '65 GTO had. I bolted it to the original
Powerglide, which a '65 GTO automatic would also have. My rear gear is 3.36
with 205/75-14 tires so it turns about 2900 RPM at 60 MPH.

I'M THINKING OF GOING TO THE SAME CRATE MOTOR. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT YOUR
OPINION IS ON THIS MOTR? WHAT GRADE OF FUEL, PERFORMANCE, MILEAGE? ARE YOU
RUNNING AN AUTOMATIC OR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND WHAT REAR END RATIO? THANKS

  Hi Guys,

My stock '55 Cameo was sold in late 2004 to be replaced by a very nice '65
Chevelle Malibu SS which now has a new GMPP 330 HP crate engine. Today at
a
local show & shine I fell in lust with a virtually perfect original 1949 AD
five-window 1/2 ton equipped with 4-speed, radio and heater. The owner
wants
$18K, Old Cars Price Guide agrees with him and NADA says $22K. The
question
is, how much trouble will I be in with my wife if I buy it?

  Thanks,
  Dennis McGillis
