If its the original setup for the 84 G20, I expect its a computer 
controlled Quadrajet carb.
I don't believe you would realize a performance benefit by retrofitting 
this system to your 57,
like you would from an EFI setup. 

For a minimum change you could use the distributor out of the 283 in the 
57, and reuse the 2 bbl from the 57 with a Mr. Gasket adapter on the 
Quadrajet manifold.  That would look very much like the original 57 
installation.  If you want to deviate from that, all the standard mods 
are available - Carbs, cams, manifolds, ignitions, etc..
