It was a '55 and it wasn't the actual Nomad they used on the show. Look
carefully at the aftermath and you'll notice that the passenger side door has
a frame around the window, not a frameless window that the Nomads have.
The show caught so much grief from old car guys that they had a short clip at
the end of a show a few weeks later explaining that the actual crunched '55
wagon was a beater that they had painted to match the Nomad.
