Today I noticed that my pool pump filter was at 30psi instead of the typical
15psi. I have never seen it go up, only down, so I was trying to figure out
what to do.

Well they say an idiot with a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I had
heard of backwashing the filter before, so I moved the valve between the
pump and the filter to the opposite side. I guess that spiked the pressure
higher as it cracked the front housing of the pump and water shot
everywhere. It's $100 to by a new front housing for my pump if I can find
it in stock somewhere and figure out how to do it myself.

The piece that broke off is a single piece that broke off around the
perimeter of the housing, that is where the clamp that circles the pump to
keep the front housing and the rest of the pump together. It dies not go as
far down as the seal. I can't tell what type of metal this thing is made
of, it is black all of the way through.

Now for my quandary. Is this something that I can try to fix with JB Weld?
If not any other ideas?

Thanks for your help
