Thanks guys. I thought there might be a unanimous recommendation one way or
the other. It is interesting to see how evenly divided opinions are. I've
got some time to decide, but right now am leaning towards Karl's
recommendation to stay with what I know, even though that knowledge is pretty
old.
My first step is to rough up the current finish and use a primer/surfacer.
Things have changed a lot since I last painted. I have seen recommendations
to use Scotch Brite pads to clean and prep the old paint. Do people just buy
them at the hardware store, or are there specific ones made for this purpose?
