Yes you are correct. The engine must be pulled because the gearbox cannot be 
removed with the engine in place. If you look under the car you will notice 
that the floor pan continues under the gearbox. This prevents the gearbox from 
being dropped. Don't Despair the engine comes out without too much pain.
The 1275 engine is a strong engine and is not prone to failure.
