This indicated the start of the 'facelifted' versions. This was when
BMC & Leyland mergec, and these were the truly "badge-engineered" cars,
and minor differences between the Sprite and the Midget were eliminated.
Changes were made to the interior trim, steering wheel, wheel, exhaust,
lights, grill, bumpers, paint color scheme. Not enough changes to
change the Mk number, but enough for BL to decide to change the serial
numbers. I believe this also coincides with the start of North American
pollution controls.

Don't assume that because you have found one problem, you have found the
ONLY problem.
