With regards to the thermostat, the common consensus is that removing
the thermostat completely is a bad thing - supposedly causes overheating
of the rear cylinders.

However, you can either install a thermostat blanking sleeve or just cut out
the centre of the thermostat. I have use the later method in the racecar. It
only requires snipping two thin bits of metal - the 'posts' that hold the
spring
in place.
